Dramatic Reading of “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens
Dramatic readings were a popular form of entertainment when Grey Towers was occupied by the Pinchot family in the late 1800s through the mid-twentieth century. The US Forest Service and Grey Towers Heritage Association have re-created these literary programs with readings and dramatizations.
For the past 42 years, the Plummer family has presented a dramatic reading of Charles Dickens’ beloved classic A Christmas Carol in the great hall at Grey Towers. The tradition began in 1980 with Joe Plummer Sr. performing a solo version of the story and in 2000 he was joined by his son — also Joe Plummer — who was then subsequently joined by his sister Therese Plummer (10 years ago) when the senior Plummer retired.
This year Joe Plummer Jr. returns to Grey Towers for a solo performance of the holiday classic bringing the tradition full circle. The performance is 85 minutes and not recommended for children under the age of 10.
