Fly Fishing with Gifford

April 30, 2022
10:30 am
- 1:30 pm

$15.00 – $20.00

Many know of Pinchot as the eminent conservation thinker of the early 20th century. His vision helped introduce scientific forestry to America and he served as first chief of the US Forest Service. But where did he gain his inspiration? How did he shape his vision? By fly fishing right here in the healthy waters of Pike County!

Brian Carso will highlight Gifford’s passion for fly fishing, guide us through a historical perspective of fly fishing, exhibit some of Gifford’s equipment, including the newly renovated canoe that he loved to fish from.

George Simon, Master Caster will lead a demonstration of the fundamentals of fly fishing casting on the lawn of Grey Towers, just as Gifford and his friends and family practiced.

Tickets are limited. If this event sells out, ask to be placed on the waiting list.

The lecture will be held at the Pike County Public Library.

The demonstration will take place immediately following the lecture at the lower parking lot of Grey Towers (directly on Old Owego Turnpike).
