Community days perpetuate Gifford Pinchot’s legacy and expand visitor access to the grounds and the land the Forest Service cares for.
About the Forest Service and Grey Towers: The Forest Service has, for more than 100 years, brought people and communities together for conservation. The agency manages 193 million acres of public land, provides assistance to state and private landowners, and maintains the largest wildland fire and forestry research organizations in the world. The 102 acres of Grey Towers National Historic Site was deeded to the Forest Service to administer by the Pinchot family in 1963. It is the former home of Gifford Pinchot, founder and first chief of the Forest Service. Gifford Pinchot used his home and grounds to establish scientific forestry, develop conservation leaders, and formulate conservation principles. Today the Forest Service and its partners operates Grey Towers as a historically kept museum and grounds offering public programs, tours, trails and conference space, bringing together the community and connecting people to nature.
