Tales of the Flute: Demo & Stories
James and Mary Pinchot were avid patrons of the arts. Their legacy will be celebrated at the Pool Pavilion at Grey Towers, prior to the Kindred Spirits performance by Concordian Dawn.
Enjoy a lecture and demonstration of a rare private collection of historical flutes by Mark Leone. Be surprised at which rare flutes from noted historical figures he owns and how he acquired them.
Hear a recorded performance by professional musicians of these instruments.
Flutes:
The cobalt flute was made in 1813 by Claude Laurent and owned by Louis Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon. This one has been on loan to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the past 4 years and is home for a visit.
The “flutes de crystal” was made in Paris by Claude Laurent in 1821.
